Although home schooling laws vary from state-to-state, home schooling is currently legal in all 50 states of the United States, this due in large part to thousands of home schooling pioneer-parents and to the efforts of The Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) founded in 1983. But because the laws permitting home schooling do vary from state-to-state, we strongly urge you to become informed as to the regulations which would affect you and your homeschooler. The best way to do this is through The HSLDA web site. This page on their web site deals specifically with the legalities of home schooling, and you can access the information regarding your state by clicking on it.
It truly could not be easier to gather essential information regarding your state's laws on home schooling. Although we can assist you to become aware of these legalties, certain states may have forms you must complete or some may require, for instance, proof of curriculum, etc., and compliance to these requirements is the ultimate responsibility of the home schooling parent.
In some cases, laws governing home schooling in a particular state may be vague or restrictive. This may necessitate you to request clarification from your local governing agency or school district.
By and large, however, most states allow the home schooling experience to continue to be the success it is now.
